As Jesus went from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him. Matthew 9:9 In Jesus giving the Great Commission to His followers, they were tasked to go out and to make disciples of all nations. The word “disciple” comes from the Greek “to learn.” Some have taken the participle of “to go” as “as you go” or “when you go.” So “as you go” or “when you go” throughout your day to school, to work, or wherever your day takes you, you are to represent Christ in a way that people will learn of Him. And with that, they are to encounter Christ by encountering us. Matthew didn’t receive Christ in the church, he received Him on his job. Salvation is a function of the church, it doesn’t necessarily have to happen in the church. Our job is to present Christ, to lift Him up, to glorify Him. If we lift Him up, He will do the drawing. Our work is not limited to the four walls of the church because the church is meant to travel. Jesus had a home base in Capernaum, but He was constantly on the move. The church is our home base but we are to be constantly on the move. As you go about your day, be the best representative of Christ that you can. People are following your lead so make sure you are leading to Christ and not away from Him.
Be blessed and be encouraged!
